But the post also talked about the timing/nature of upcoming patches. They wouldn't want people's expectations built off of that if it's not true.

Price drop and revision should come next year, along with more 3D Mario, BOTW2, and some type of new Pokemon (likely a remake). If all of those happen next year I could see it actually being the console's peak year, as opposed to this year.

Yeah, I think that's completely correct. Other minor improvements. Particle effects, hair and cloth simulation, etc . . .

CPU is gonna be where it's really at. More physics. Destruction. Hidden systems like dynamic weather.

Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Assassin's Creed, Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga (they seem to really be putting effort into that one), etc . . .

I could see a new Warner Bros, Ubisoft, EA, or Activision title being announced as well.

Animal Crossing number one in April could definitely happen. The game is seeing fantastic legs in Japan already and if it has the same in the US, that combined with having the full month to sell could give it a leg up. Only thing is Nintendo doesn't include digital sales.

Nintendoland-like asymmetrical multiplayer. Would be amazing. I may pick one up eventually but right now I'm really just interested for sim-usage and the tech isn't where I want it yet.

Judging by sales, neither do Sony or PC fans either.

It's still a niche market and a developing tech, and it will be for at least a few more years. Microsoft wasn't interested in jumping in right away. Sony wanted to get on board and they're one of the leaders in the market. Both positions are respectable.

Yeah, this is obvious.

Sony already has their treasure trove of IPs that they don't have the developers to fully leverage. Why would they buy a bunch of Konami IPs and then shift their focus from their own IPs and identity to work on Konami games.

Plus Konami is still making money off the games, most they'd do is loan one out.

The best why I've found is to join some animal crossing groups or pages. Discord might be a good place to start. Tons of people are sharing their codes.

The Stardew Valley comparisons are misguided. They're similar in the same vein as, like, Doom, Halo, and Metroid Prime or something. They have similarities. They're technically roughly the same genre. Ultimately they're very different though.

Stardew Valley is actually about farming. Animal Crossing is more about interacting, collecting, and decorating.

The actual gameplay is pretty chill. It's meant for you to play a bit every day. Toward...

No idea what age has to do with it. The series has been popular for a long time. The series is popular with people of all ages.

Nintendo games on Switch have continually put out amazing numbers even relative to previous entries in their series. A lot of people are in quarantine or trying to avoid going out right now.

It's literally the perfect storm. Sales are gonna be insane.

@gaboonviper,

Yeah, not to mention Microsoft has already announced things like the fact that if you buy some games for Xbox One, you get the Series X version automatically. Already applied to first party games and Cyberpunk, with more to come I'm sure.

I'm not ready to say Sony has dropped the ball or anything, but their attitude towards revealing the PS5 has been baffling. Using backwards compatibility as an example, why haven't they come out...

A lot of people are expecting PS5 to be cheaper, but the thing is the SSD inside will be far more expensive, and adding another TB very well may be $300+ at launch. With only 825GB internal, after OS more storage will be essential. Additionally with how aggressive they're being with pushing those CUs it's actually possible the chip cost is similar between the consoles, due to binning, despite the PS5 being weaker overall. Definitely some interesting choices. We'll have to see when...

@Christopher,

It's in the Eurogamer breakdown.

" . . . Microsoft has delivered 12 teraflops of compute performance via 3328 shaders allocated to 52 compute units (from 56 in total on silicon, four disabled to increase production yield) running at a sustained, locked 1825MHz. Once again, Microsoft stresses the point that frequencies are consistent on all machines, in all environments. There are no boost clocks with Xbox Series X."

@SpaceRanger,

That's why I'm super curious about Lockheart.

If it's real and it's coming soon, it could give Microsoft a major legup in the current economic climate.

@fr0sty,

The Xbox Series X has a dedicated audio chip too, so the audio engine of PS5 likely won't affect the computational disadvantage of the PS5.

IMO it was obvious as soon as the Xbox One X was revealed. It's an incredibly well designed console. Microsoft does make hardware and IIRC they had their Surface Pro team help with the One X and Series X.

There's going to be only certain certified SSDs. The options will be so limited for the near future that it will be expensive. It's also much faster so the base cost will be higher.

If that SSD is only 825gb before reserved space that's going to hurt.

1501d ago 1 agree6 disagreeView comment

The Xbox Series X performance is locked to those clock speeds. The average is 12TF because that is what it is always running at.

Yeah, but in some cases the story has already been discussed to death elsewhere, so it feels like there's nothing to add in a discussion here.

I definitely feel totally anonymous rumors are unwarranted, but I feel like a distinction should be made when it's backed by known and trusted industry figures. It seems ridiculous that we have to have a blog post that we won't allow articles on the impending E3 cancelation/delay/changes when it was already completely cle...
